Lots of exciting things have been happening in the Shop and cafe in June.

On 24th May the Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop Rachel came to visit. He was very keen to see how successful the shop and cafe are within the setting of a church.

He dedicated the balcony to the much loved Rev John Spiers

Can you believe the shop and cafe has been open for a whole year in June .  During its first year, the shop and café have served 26,000 customers, both locals, visitors and a surprising number of tourists from as far as New Zealand, Canada and the USA. The café team have served 12,000 coffees and 7,000 cakes.

Come and celebrate with the shop and cafe team. We are hoping for sunshine as there will be stalls and activities outside as well as inside. The Amberley Grdening club and Amberley Artisans will have pop up stalls, there will be food tastings from suppliers, a bar, a BBQ and cream teas will be served in the afternoon. Childrens activities including facepainting. Come along and join in the fun.

There’s lots happening in the shop and cafe this month, with a delicious new menu in the cafe (who can resist a warm sausage roll made by Henrys in Minchinhampton and delivered daily to the cafe).

There are some lovely new summer goodies available  in the shop. These delicious antipasti are perfect for summer drinks parties. Grab yourself a bottle of Woodchester wine and some Hobbs house Bread  and you can have an effortless evening. 

Did you know that all of the costs of looking after Amberley church have to be met by the congregation – it gets no automatic support from the state, unlike in many countries. The church provides the perfect venue for our shop and cafe in the village, creating a vibrant hub, and deserves the support of the whole community, so anything you can do to help is welcomed. Would you like to join the 150 club? The idea being that up to 150 people pay £15 per year and the pot is divided in two, half goes to fund the upkeep of the church and half goes in to a prize draw with 3 prizes which is drawn twice a year at friday cuppa. A bit like a lottery but with considerably better odds! you can find out more about it and sign up here

Friday cuppa is happening every week in the cafe, come along and enjoy some company, or if you have an elderly neighbour who doesn’t get out much do bring them along. 10am - 12pm

Saturday 29th June - Shop and Cafe 1st birthday celebrations - come and join us for a fun day of food, drinks and activities

A year down the road and we have an ever-growing volunteer team whose confidence and skills levels continue to rise. With very few exceptions, everyone who signed up last June is still with us even if they are in a behind the scenes kind of role. We have continued to recruit volunteers of all ages. One of our greatest achievements is to have taken on, and retained, an enthusiastic and stunningly competent team of students who are our key staff at weekends. They are either working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or they are volunteering simply for the enjoyment and fulfilment it brings them. Other students, from local schools, come to us for a whole week of work experience in July, or, from the National Star College to fulfil their work experience programme which requires them to work one day a week.

A highlight coming up is our First Birthday and to celebrate on the day itself, we are throwing a party for all our wonderful volunteers as a huge thank you for their continued support, loyalty and sheer hard work.
